On the 17th December 2014 industry partners from the last quarter century came together to share this milestone with Skyviews at the Spice Beach Club, Bonaire. The Lieutenant Governor of Bonaire: Mr. Edison Rijna inaugurated the launch of the Sustainability Awards for Bonaire tourism providers through BlueGreenMatters.Org and presented 8 Bonairean businesses with their Sustainability Award. The Awardees were: ECHO, Dive Friends Bonaire, The Cadushy Distillery, Sunshine Market, Posada Para Mira, Mangazina di Rei, La Placita and VIP Diving.

The Awards recognize excellence in sustainable business practice in one or more of the areas: Biodiversity, Energy, Social Governance, Water and Waste. They are a new regional venture that has potential to inspire and reward businesses for their contributions to broader national and regional sustainability efforts as well as represent innovative partnership between private and public sector locally and globally. GLISPA, Global Island Partnership and CREST, Center for Responsible Travel support the Awards.

Small island states such as Bonaire are particularly vulnerable to economic shocks and climate change. “We have before us an urgent call to adopt sustainable business practices and decouple environmental degradation from economic progress,” said Jessica Bensley, the CEO of Skyviews Inc.

Awards are offered trough Skyviews to over 600 tourism services providers in 11 Caribbean islands. The Awards measure the impact of a business on the environment and support a business to isolate changes that can increase the bottom line whilst decreasing the impact on the environment. The Awards also encourage businesses to shape their marketing narratives and communicate the values they place on social and environmental equity. For further details, please contact Skyviews Inc.
