Bonaire hosts US Media group


Tourism Corporation Bonaire (TCB) and a variety of stakeholders hosted a group of five U.S. media on a press visit to the island, June 7 – 14, 2014. All of the journalists were certified divers, and on assignment for the following publications:

Christy Woodrow was on assignment to write an online destination story for Ordinary Traveler. Her story will highlight receiving her open water certification in Bonaire, as well as the variety of activities the island has to offer. Ordinary Traveler is a travel website that provides advice on how to get the most out of your vacation; travel tips and provides readers with a visual sense of adventure. The website receives over 100,000 monthly page views.

Victor Dorff was on assignment to cover Bonaire for the Huffington Post Blog, Global Writes, TripAdvisor and Bonaire will be spotlighted in his articles as a premier dive destination, and will highlight the island’s cuisine. 3. 

 Susan Barnes was on assignment to cover Bonaire for Women’s Adventure Magazine. Women’s Adventure is the only sports, travel, fitness and lifestyle magazine published specifically for active women. It has a monthly online readership of 225,000. Susan also posted about her adventures in Bonaire on her Twitter & Facebook accounts.

Lisa Sonne was on assignment for and Bonaire will be highlighted as a top dive destination, and her articles will also cover her topside experiencesin Bonaire

In addition to the magazine being available at newsstands, the magazine is also distributed in First Class Delta Crown Lounges, Four Seasons Hotels and InterContinental Hotels.

“This is one of the best press trips I’ve ever experienced,” said Freelancer Susan Barnes. “I’ve learned from this trip that Bonaire has more to offer than just scuba diving. The variety of land activities make adventure above the water just as fun as those below. I returned home with a number of story ideas and have made pitches to additional editors/outlets about featuring Bonaire as an upcoming story topic.”

In addition to diving around the island, the group took on the adventures of cave snorkeling, windsurfing, horseback riding, volunteering at Bonaire’s Coral Restoration Project and a visit to Washington Slagbaai National Park. They also enjoyed Bonaire’s gastronomy and the cuisine variety.

Journalist also commented, what they love so much about the island; the people, food, arid maritime landscape, the sweet and easy diving and the terrific array of above watersports. They adored the spirit of the place; relaxed and with an emphasis on independent travel and exploring natural beauty.
