It was a truly lovely evening, with over 300 people gathering together at Hotel Roomer for a fun-filled evening which included a raffle with fabulous prizes worth over $3000, live music from Moogie and even a children’s cinema showing ‘A Turtle’s Tale,’ (of course).  The bidding went extremely well, led by Eddy Thielman & Frans de Jong while Richard Willis acted as MC, and the final total raised was a staggering $14,156.78, which far exceeded the expectations of the conservation organization.

STCB expressed sincere thanks during the brief speech at the event towards volunteers Hans & Jannie Koning for what STCB Project Coordinator Sue Willis described as their “boundless enthusiasm and tireless endeavors throughout the eight months of this project”. Willis added that “Without them this event would have been a pale shadow of the great success that it turned out to be”. STCB also offered thanks to Nicole, Martin and Noa Roomer, Arjen Kramer & Eva Tijsma for their work on the fundraising website, and to the many STCB volunteers, who helped with the project.

The individually crafted turtle artwork bidding went up to $750 for each item, the majority selling on the night with just a few going to online bidders. STCB was amazed at each and every one of the 109 artworks that were created by the artist donors who proved incredibly generous and creative. On the night STCB also expressed thanks to the artists who helped at the two art workshops held as part of the project during 2014: Adi Figaroa, Dion, Mamita Fox, Jannie Koning, Linda Maas, and Catrien van Manen, and to the students from Liseo Boneriano and Kolegio Kristu Bon Wardador who attended these workshops.

STCB expressed thanks to everyone bidding online and at Saturday’s auction. Manager Mabel Nava said “Even if you didn't win an artwork, if you made a bid then you helped towards the total: thank you”.
