This remarkable group called Wounded Warriors consist of soldiers and marines that were hurt in Iraq and Afghanistan made a trip to Bonaire together with their family to complete their diving certification. The group consisted of 16 people, both courageous men and women some accompanied by their spouses or partner, and also by a representative of Handicapped Scuba Diving Alliance.

This year the group was honored with a special cocktail reception in the yard of the main government office organized by Tourism Corporation Bonaire and sponsored by Caradonna. The public consisted of special guests including all the sponsors that made this trip possible.

The group was transported by bus accompanied by the group of Iron Riders Bonaire that escorted them to 'berstuurscollege' where they received a warm welcome from commissioner Nina den Heyer. Mrs. Derchlien Vrolijk-Dijkhoff, Marketing Manager of TCB gave a speech saying: 'We, the Tourism Corporation Bonaire absolutely believe in keeping something that is good and elevate it to greatness! It is with these beliefs and combining efforts that we will keep honoring, extraordinary men and women like you. We thank you for being part of this journey with us and welcome you to our family as our slogan cites – Once a Visitor, Always a Friend!

TCB took the opportunity to hand over a certificate to each Wounded Warrior during this evening, this was done by commissioner den Heyer, and the Ambassador program coordinator Mrs. Helen Mercera-Thodé accompanied by Miss Tourism Bonaire 2018, Miss Carolin Coffie. This as a recognition of their dedication in safeguarding peace around the world and for giving Bonaire the honor to host this group on our island. The representative of Handicapped Scuba Diving Alliance, also gave a token of appreciation to everyone who contributed in any way in making their trip to Bonaire possible.

Guests enjoyed of a great evening, with a show by Mrs. Vanessa Peralta and Dominican Dancers. The project “The Wounded Warrior Disabled Sports” gives the wounded soldiers and their family opportunity to experience things in life related to sports and recreation, and with this create a positive and healthy lifestyle.
