American Airlines to Increase Flight Frequency from Miami to Bonaire

On the heels of Delta’s recent announcement of increasing flights from Atlanta for the upcoming peak travel weeks, American Airlines has also announced daily airlift from Miami for the busy holiday period, as well as the ongoing addition of a weekly Monday route. The news comes as a result of Tourism Corporation Bonaire’s (TCB) ongoing recovery efforts to make visitor access to the Dutch Caribbean island more convenient, combined with the demand American Airlines has received on its current non-stop flights from Miami to Bonaire.

Beginning November 8, American Airlines will build on its current Wednesday and Saturday flight schedule to include a third option on Mondays. Additionally, the airline will be upgrading the aircraft for its Saturday route to a 737, adding room for up to 44 more passenger seats. To top it off, American will also offer daily flights from December 16, 2021 to January 3, 2022 to supplement what is anticipated to be an active holiday travel period.

“First Delta and now American. We are elated with the high demand the island has received along with the response from these major airlines. The additional flight service from these key hubs exhibits Tourism Corporation Bonaire’s continued recovery efforts to offer travelers even more options and direct routes to the island,” said Miles Mercera, director at Tourism Corporation Bonaire. “As part of our Tourism Recovery Plan, we will continue these efforts and anticipate more improvements and positive news to come. We look forward to seeing a boost in tourism and our local economy as we move forward on this path to recovery.”

Furthermore, Hennyson Thielman commissioner of tourism said, “We are very happy with the expansion of flights of both Delta and American Airlines. This expansion is part of the Tourism Recovery Plan and a direct result of the efforts put towards recovering the American market. We are looking forward to a busy season, and expect positive economic developments on our island back again.”

American Airlines’ Wednesday and Saturday flights depart Miami (MIA) at 10:45 a.m. with arrival to Bonaire (BON) at 1:22 p.m. leaving visitors ample time to explore the island. The return flight leaves BON at 3:20 p.m. and reaches MIA at 6:36 p.m. The new Monday route will be on the same schedule.
