Off the Beaten Path

In addition to traditional restaurants, Bonaire’s culinary world offers delicious local food places.  “Snacks” (local hangouts) are sometimes walk-up or sit down places offering a variety of foods. 

While many snacks offer Bonairean or Chinese choices, Indonesian, Columbian and others are represented.  Menu items vary.  Some Bonairean favorites include kabritu stoba (goat stew), galinja stoba (chicken stew), fresh fish and soups.  Try a pastechi, homemade fried dough filled with chicken, fish, or Gouda cheese.  Be sure to sample some of the homemade local hot sauces (pika), watch out!
