Inspired by Bonaire
I am Henk Roozendaal, 60 years of age. I have been an artist painting on Bonaire for over 9 years. In Holland, I worked as a creative director for several advertising agencies. Drawn by the beautiful weather I moved to Bonaire and am able to pick up my two hobbies of drawing and painting again. Now, I work as an artist. On Bonaire I find lots of inspiration.
Bonaire’s Beauty
One of my three favorite places in Bonaire is my house and garden. This is my own private paradise. Sorobon Beach is beautiful, too. I can be found at Jibe City, just hanging around, relaxing and playing my harmonica. Lac Bay is a very unique bay. I consider Bonaire’s underwater reef one of my favorites also. I enjoy shore diving.
Portraits of Bonaire
One of my works of art, which I am very proud of, is the painting on Cultimara Supermarket in downtown Kralendijk. Also, in 2002, I published the book “Portraits of Bonaire”. It gives readers an artistic view into the life of people on Bonaire. For this project, I captured a perspective of typical Bonairean people, all of whom love the island and never want to leave. Just like me! Bonaire is small and tranquil, but at the same time it’s very cosmopolitan. That’s why I call Bonaire the bellybutton of the earth.
