New Year’s Day – Maskarada, January 1
Maskarada takes place on New Years Day and originates from Bonaire’s Indian roots. Locals completely disguised make speeches about each other poking fun at events throughout the past year. Peoplefrom each village dress and arrive early in groups at the Lt. Governor’s home to dance and play around outside wishing the family a Happy New Year. The Lt. Governor thanks them with a bottle of rum, held and dispensed by a designated member.
Kaminda di Arte, January 16
Every 3rd Sunday of the month: Bonaire Art tour!More than 15 museums/art galleries across the Island will open there doors from 11am till 5pm. Clean up dive, January 16
Dive Friends Bonaire and Nettech organize their famous Clean Up Dive. Check in at Dive Friends at Dive Inn at 9:30 AM for the clean up at the South Pier. BBQ will be held at Dive Friends, location: Yellow Submarine at 5:00 PM. For more info please visit the website.
International Fishing Tournament, January 27-29
International & Local Fishing Tournament! Several fishing boats from Bonaire, Curacao, Aruba and Venezuela will participate. The pier opposite of the restaurant It Rains Fishes, also known as the Club Nautico Pier, will be the main place to be! During the tournament! A variety of activities will be planned such as BBQ's, live music, promotional booths and prizes and traditional music performances, DJ music and bands of Curacao!
