Dee Scarr’s Touch the Sea

Dee Scarr has been introducing divers to Bonaire’s marine life and educating about marine life worldwide for over a quarter of a century. What makes Touch the Sea dives special is their personal nature. Participants meet creatures that Scarr has known for years, including scorpionfish, sharptail eels, and occasionally octopus (one of the world’s most intelligent invertebrates).

Many Touch the Sea divers are accepted as cleaner station clients, thus being treated as marine animals - marine Homo sapiens - by the cleaners.
In addition, Touch the Sea divers learn about Bonaire’s reef ecology from someone close to the subject. Scarr’s work, helping coral reefs and educating people about them, has been recognized not just by Captain Don Stewart’s Accolade Award, but by others as well. Scarr was the second recipient (after Jean-Michel Cousteau) of the PADI/SeaSpace Environmental Awareness Award in 1991, and is an inaugural member of the Women Divers Hall of Fame.

Touch the Sea offers individual dives and specialty courses designed by Scarr: Future Perfect Diver, and Touch the Sea Diver.
