Washington Slagbaai Today

The Washington-Slagbaai National Park has a manager and team of rangers who operate the park.  

The original plantation structures at the park’s entrance are still in use.  The visitor center has a museum, library, gift shop, and patio.  The entrance also has a housing facility for scientists and headquarters.  

The museum has both inside and open-air exhibits. Outdoors, a walking path shows the ways of the past.  The museum provides examples of Bonaire’s flora and fauna and Bonaire history is portrayed on a timeline.  There is explanation and examples of Bonaire’s geological history and more.

The gift shop offers refreshments and items for sale.  Relax on the shady terrace and enjoy a cold drink.  In addition, a Bride’s whale skeleton, reconstructed as a BONAI (Bonaire youth organization) project, can be seen at the entrance.
