Kontiki Beach Bonaire recently received the Travelife Gold Award, a prize presented on behalf of the International Federation of Tour Operators. Only enterprises engaged in sustainable tourism have an opportunity to win this award.Kontiki received this prize after an audit conducted by a professional inspector from Travel Service International Solutions. In addition, the resort had to answer a series of questions to ensure that it complied with all the strict criteria.
The inspector’s extensive checklist included the following subjects: Does the resort’s policy meet the requirements for sustainable tourism? How does the resort deal with energy, water and waste? What is the resort’s personnel policy? And how does it communicate with its clients? This audit was an initiative of TUI Netherlands, which also financed the project.
Good for gold
‘It is a great honour to receive this prestigious award. The audit was very thorough and we are proud that Kontiki is now certified. We strive to score well in the area of sustainability and respect for the environment in the hospitality industry.’ According to the proud owners, Miriam and Martin van Bekkum: ‘This is underscored by the Travelife Gold Award.’
