Lora counting: 650 species!
Loras are counted yearly on Bonaire. This year the lora counting took place on January 28. Countless volunteers went looking for the yellow-shouldered Amazon parrot. They counted 650 birds. But the total score is probably around 800. Counters have also heard Lora's in places where they didn’t count.
For the 17th time
The Lora counting was scheduled for the 17th time. It’s a collaboration between the Department of Environment and Nature DROB, STINAPA BONAIRE, Fundashon Salba Nos Lora and the foundation Echo.
Resting Areas
Volunteers count in the resting areas of the Lora’s. These are places where groups of Lora's sleep in trees. These sites are well known, but the behavior of the Lora is not entirely predictable. Depending on the weather and food supply they spread across the island. Therefore, the whereabouts of the birds is determined a few days before the actual count.
