Dutch National Park on Bonaire
Did you know that two thirds of Bonaire is a protected nature reserve? The island has two large national parks: the Washington Slagbaai Park and the Bonaire National Marine Park. The marine park has recently received the official status of Dutch National Park.
Special municipality
Bonaire became a special municipality of the Netherlands on 10 October 2010. That’s why the Dutch government now officially proclaimed the Bonaire National Marine Park a ‘Dutch National Park’. Those are areas noted for their outstanding landscapes, plants and wildlife; areas that people can visit to learn something about nature.
