Kayaking

Kayaking is a peaceful way to explore Bonaire’s tranquil and protected mangroves.  Kayak operators lead trips to the mangroves upon request with snorkeling as an option.

The Mangroves border one of Bonaire’s specially protected sites, Lac.  Since 1980, Lac has been a Ramsar site and is recognized globally as a wetlands of special significance.  

When kayaking through the mangroves, a guide is required.  The purpose of the guide is to provide an understanding to visitors about the mangroves delicate ecosystems and to ensure that proper methods are taken to continue to protect the area. 

Additionally, the Bonaire Marine Park asks that visitors to the mangroves adhere to the mangrove code of conduct. The mangrove trees are globally endangered species.
