The journey of Piffie, the hawksbill turtle
Piffie was found on No Name Beach on 7 October 2010. This female hawksbill turtle came to this Klein Bonaire beach to lay her eggs. Researches fitted her with a transmitter and named her Piffie.
Turbulent trip
After Piffie had laid the eggs, she embarked on a journey, as her kind are prone to do. First she headed for Curaçao, after which she braved the tropical storm Tomas and swam on to Puerto Rico. Now, a year later, she has made her home on Anegada Island, one of the British Virgin Islands.
Far from home
The reef where she lives is located some 840 km from Klein Bonaire. Piffie is the first tagged Bonaire turtle that has settled near the British Virgin Islands.
