Dive site Salt Pier on Bonaire
Salt Pier on Bonaire
According to many, Salt Pier is one of the most beautiful dive sites on Bonaire. Since you will need permission from the Cargill Salt Company, make plans early with your local dive shop to schedule this dive. This permission is no problem as long as there are no large ship arriving at the Salt Pier.
Location of the dive site
The dive site is located to the south of Kralendijk along the coastal road. Park your car near the piei, and just walk into the water to enter the dive site Salt Pier.
The dive itself
Getting in is very simple and the limited depth (24 meters) makes it a suitable dive for both beginners and experts. The peer is build on long piles and transports the salt into the ships for export. Below the pier you will find lots of piles which are all fully grown with several coral formations. The diversity of the coral colours improves if you take a dive lamp with you under water.
The piles are a home to several species of fish. From yellow snappers up to hunting barracuda' s. Also tarpons swim by. Under the pier several wreck parts of ships are an ideal hiding place for Mureens. Keep an eye on the deep blue waters for eagle rays. This spot is paradise for underwater photography, but also as a night dive.
