Bird watching

Over 200 species of birds have been sighted on Bonaire.  This includes permanent residents and occasional visitors.  Whether relaxing at an outdoor café, dining at a resort restaurant, or relaxing in a hammock, listen carefully.  Chances are some of Bonaire’s birds can be heard or seen.

Head south by the salt pans or north to Gotomeer to see Bonaire’s beautiful pink flamingos.  Take along binoculars and try to spot Bonaire’s own Lora (Yellow winged parrot) or green Prikichis (parakeets).  These birds are usually heard before they are seen.  Some other birds include brightly colored Orioles, Trupials and Bananaquits.

A variety of sea birds are also seen such as Brown Pelicans, Osprey and Frigate birds.  Island birding professionals are available for birding trips.
